I thought that everyone was about fed up with on line training, but with the current lock down I wanted to provide a link to some on line courses that are often overlooked. Here are three good sources.
- Defense Nuclear Weapons School. A part of DTRA, this school traces it’s lineage back to the Manhattan Project. They have an extensive course catalog, including 4 courses just for EOD. They also offer 6 on line distance courses. Here’s the link to the course catalog: https://www.dtra.mil/Portals/61/Documents/DNWS/Catalog_Web_New.pdf?ver=2019-09-03-154118-80
- Defense Ammunition Center. The DAC has had some really good distance learning for a long time. I remember back before the internet when they used to send you CD ROMs with the course on it. Yes, I’m that old. Here’s the link: http://www.dactces.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=123&Itemid=77 Here are some selections from their inventory:
- Ammo-54-DL Risk Management and Preparation of SOPs for Ammunition and Explosive Operations (9E-F68/920-F36 (DL))- I like this because it covers writing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for ammuntion operations. If you are not on an emergency call out, then it’s a pre-planned operation, and you should have a written plan or an SOP.
- Ammo-68-DL Military Munitions Rule (MMR) (4E-F46/645-F30 (DL)). This course used to be an annual training requirement for those doing domestic response. I’m not sure if it is still required, but a good refresher course.
- FEMA Emergency Management institute. EMI has a huge number of courses. Of interest to active duty types are those that deal with the Incident Management System, this is how the civilians figure out who is in charge of what on-scene.
- IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System
- IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
- IS-800.C: National Response Framework, an Introduction
